The Oddicombe Cliff Railway was first opened in April 1926 and it still runs 80 years on.
Those who are unable to undertake the challenging walk via the steep pathway (1 in 3 gradients) the cliff railway a convenient and enjoyable way of transport to and from Oddicombe and Babbacombe beaches.
Oddicombe is the only beach within Torbay to have its own cliff railway. The cliff railway over the last eight decades has carried countles numbers of passengers to and from the two beaches.
At its peak it was carrying up to 250,000 people a year. Numbers have declined mainly due to the expansion of package holidays abroad.
Concession fares for users of wheelchairs and small mobility vehicles so alll are welcome to use this popular cliff railway.
One of only sixteen funicular railways functioning in the United Kingdom Babbacombe Cliff Railway is believed to be one of only two, both unique in design and still operational.
Railway opening times are from 9.30am to 6.00pm during the high season the last up journey is signalled by the ringing of the ships bell 30 minutes before the railway closes.
